GBCLT was originally founded and formed as an LLC in March of 2023, when two of our members came together in response to ongoing sweeps of encampments in Minneapolis. Their purpose was to find the most efficient way to purchase land for unhoused people who have been continually displaced to reside on autonomously. The GBCLT board of directors was quickly formed, composed of formerly and currently unhoused individuals, and individuals and organizations who participate in ongoing mutual aid support for the unhoused community. These efforts include street outreach and harm-reduction, street medic care, community defense and organizing, mental health case management, nonprofit organizing, grant writing, food share distribution, and more. We are an ever-growing collective bringing together our wide range of skills, knowledge, and lived-experience to directly address the need for free, autonomous and supported housing.
